Spring is here, and it’s the perfect time to cleanse and revitalize our bodies. One great way to do this is through juicing! Juicing allows us to consume a variety of fruits and vegetables in one go, providing us with a myriad of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to help us feel our best. If you’re new to juicing, don’t worry. This beginner’s guide will walk you through everything you need to know to get started on your spring detox journey.
Choose your juicer: The first step is to choose the right juicer. There are two main types of juicers: centrifugal and masticating. Centrifugal juicers are faster and more affordable, but they may not extract as much juice as masticating juicers, which are slower and more expensive. If you’re new to juicing, a centrifugal juicer may be a good choice to start with.
Pick your ingredients: The next step is to choose your ingredients. Aim to include a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as leafy greens, carrots, beets, cucumbers, celery, apples, and berries. Experiment with different combinations to find what works best for you. Some popular juice recipes include:
Green juice: kale, spinach, cucumber, celery, lemon, and ginger
Carrot juice: carrots, apples, ginger, and lemon
Beet juice: beets, apples, carrots, and ginger
Prep your ingredients: Before juicing, be sure to wash and prepare your ingredients. Remove any seeds, stems, or peels that are not edible. Cut the fruits and vegetables into smaller pieces that will fit into your juicer.
Juice!: Now it’s time to juice! Follow the instructions for your juicer and start feeding your ingredients through. Be sure to alternate between harder and softer ingredients to ensure maximum juice extraction. Once you’re done, stir the juice and pour it into a glass.
Enjoy your freshly made juice immediately for the best taste and nutrient retention. If you need to store it, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
